Main reason for me I think is to by running in 50 states it will be easier to bring awareness to charity projects and we can potentially raise money to support this cause. We will also open a door to anyone - especially veterans - who would like to join us and participate in running and exploring other states. In addition to raising awareness and documenting our story where we'll include all pros and cons of specific marathons and highlights of different states - we will also force ourselves to stay active and set example to other people. People were born to run and there is only 0.01% of people in USA are completing marathons. Maybe with our help there will be more people who would try to lead a healthier lifestyles and start running. I also hope that we will lead by example for our kids - who hopefully will also become runners soon.
I love running, and love exploring new locations. Have always wanted to see all of the states of America and this is a perfect way to make sure I do that. It’ll keep me in shape as I’ll never stop training for marathons. This also allows me to go on a mini-adventure 5 times a year. Love the possibility of potentially helping a charity as well. Additionally, I want to inspire more women to run - I have two little girls that watch me run on a regular basis and want to make sure they know that anything is possible.
Much of my military and government career was dedicated to travel on a global scale. Though, despite the guarantees of a life of hardship, arduous duties, and countless personal sacrifices, I committed to endure this often difficult and sometimes unsavory lifestyle. Oddly, I grew to appreciate; even developing a kinship, for the most austere of locations and conditions my duties pressed upon me. I grew to understand that it is in those moments of greatest challenge that we are truly tested and as a result, we must condition the body and mind to always be adaptive to the stresses, both mental and physical, thrust upon it. Having now separated from government work, I am privileged to participate in this effort to run 50 marathons in 50 states. Mostly, I do so to honor a country I am happy to call home. Also, I do it to pay homage to those brave men and women who sacrificed so much so that we can enjoy the freedoms we have today.

There is no official route for this gritty, neon-drenched run through the streets of NYC. Instead, after a Conclave, held in Van Cortland Park at 1 AM, runners escape to Coney Island, taking any route they choose, passing through the 96th Street and Union Square subway stations before finishing on the beach at Coney Island at dawn. Distances vary from 27-29 miles.
